Owner of Song Saa Private Island Cambodia Honoured as 2015 Young Global Leader
Song Saa Hotels and Resorts is honoured to announce that Founder and CEO, Rory Hunter, has been selected as a Young Global Leader for 2015, and is the only nominee recognized for his efforts in Cambodia. This award, which is bestowed by the World Economic Forum each year, recognizes the most distinguished leaders under the age of 40 for their commitment to improving the state of the world.
Hunter’s nomination recognizes his commitment to preserving Cambodia’s natural and cultural heritage and his innovation in pioneering a sustainable model for hotel development. Born in Australia, Hunter is the Chairman and CEO of Song Saa Hotels and Resorts, the developer and operator of the award-winning Song Saa Private Island resort in southwest Cambodia, and co-Founder of the Song Saa Foundation with his wife, Melita.
The Song Saa Foundation
The Song Saa Foundation supports the archipelago’s 2,500 local inhabitants as well as the region’s unique flora, fauna and marine life. At the foreground of the Foundation’s education endeavours is the ‘Boat of Hope’ project, which entails the conversion of a traditional Cambodian fishing boat into a mobile education and marine research centre. The Foundation’s youth education initiative, the Song Saa Sea Turtles, meanwhile, reaches out to the islands’ young people, helping them to become the conservationists of the future.
The Foundation has not only benefitted the inhabitants of the islands and the natural environment, however, it has also drawn international support to the region. Rory and Melita’s work has recently been endorsed by His Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco who is helping to fund the expansion of the marine reserve to 400 square kilometres.
